Center on Outcomes, Research and Education (CORE)
The Center on Outcomes, Research and Education (CORE) is the locus for health outcomes research at ENH. CORE has established itself as an international leader in health outcomes assessment, measurement and applications to improve patient care and influence policy. We bridge clinical activity and outcomes Research at ENH through Quality Improvement/Continuity of Care at the Research Institute. With academic ties to several departments at Northwestern University, including the Institute for Healthcare Studies (IHS) and collaborations in clinical research with many of the major hospitals in the greater Chicagoland area, CORE's research on health outcomes and effectiveness evaluates how various treatment strategies affect results important to patients, including quality of life. All CORE investigators are on faculty at the IHS and are fully integrated into its administrative and educational activities.
CORE is staffed with over 80 employees whose combined expertise has allowed for the advancement of multiple goals in research, hospital and community education. Within these three primary units, operational groups have been organized to provide specialized functioning. For research alone, we have staff dedicated to research operations, scientific advancement, data management, statistics and psychometrics. A large administrative team provides integrated support, and our Translation and Formatting Services group is an internationally recognized entity dedicated to the translation of conceptually relevant and cross-culturally valid patient-reported outcomes measures. We offer a variety of services to ENH, Northwestern University and to external investigators around the globe. CORE is also actively involved in extramural research and in outcomes education.
Our work has four primary goals:
- To provide leadership to Evanston Northwestern Healthcare for generating and interpreting outcomes data
- To demonstrate improvements in the quality and cost-effectiveness of care at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare
- To facilitate outcomes research by Evanston Northwestern Healthcare investigators
- To conduct nationally visible, externally-funded outcomes research
