What are Feeds?

In various places on ENH.org, you might see an icon like this:

Clicking on that icon will give you the feed for the page you're on. Feeds - sometimes called "RSS feeds" - can show you what's new on a web page without having to visit that page in your web browser.

In order to use a feed, you'll need a program on your computer that can read it. These are usually called "newsreaders". They work and look a lot like email programs, but instead of receiving emails from people, you receive updates from websites such as ENH.org.

Getting Started

The first step to using a feed is to download a newsreader. If you're using Windows, the web browser Firefox has a built-in newsreader. You can also try FeedDemon. If you're on a Mac, the web browser Safari has a built-in newsreader. You may also try NetNewsWire. Follow the instructions included with these downloads to install the program on your computer.

Subscribing to a Feed

Once your reader is installed, you'll need to subscribe to a feed. That means you'll need to tell the program where the feed is located. If you're using Firefox or Safari, you'll see a clickable icon in your address bar when a page has a feed.

If you're not using Firefox or Safari, you can click the feed icon. Depending upon the newsreader you're using, you may be automatically given the option to subscribe to the feed. If you aren't, you can copy and paste the feed's address into your newsreader.

Once you've subscribed to a feed, it will appear in your newsreader. Your newsreader will automatically check ENH.org to see if there is anything new for you to read. If there is something new, it will automatically get the new article for you to read.

You're all set! Now you can keep updated on what's going on at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare on your schedule.
