In the past, a person could have osteoporosis and not be aware of it until the effects on the body were visible. Sometimes a fractured hip or broken wrist were the first indication that something was wrong.
Today, access to information, identifiable risk factors, and revolutionary advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment have combined to change this picture.
While no one is completely immune, there are certain factors that indicate a greater predisposition to this disease. These factors include being female, having a small frame, being fair-skinned, having family members with osteoporosis, avoidance of dairy products, and smoking. A premature or surgical menopause can also contribute to detrimental bone loss at any early age.
Reqest an appointment for a Bone Density Scan.
