ResourcesRelated Web Sites
For further information the reader is referred to some excellent print resources well as Internet Web sites that cover topics pertinent to travel medicine. The CDC Web site in particular is an excellent resource: it has basic disease and vaccine information, the text of the weekly disease updates (Blue Sheets), as well as the full text of the most current "Health Information for International Travel" yellow book. These information sources are not intended to replace professional travel or medical advice. I strongly encourage all overseas travelers to seek the advice and services of a competent physician or other health care professional experienced in travel medicine. The goal of travel medicine practitioners is to develop rational guidelines for prevention of death and illness in travelers and to balance the risks of morbidity and mortality against the risks, benefits, and costs of prevention. An informed and prepared traveler enhances their chances of a healthier trip.
