Should complications arise, expert consultation and care are available at both Evanston and Highland Park Hospitals.
Care for High Risk Mothers and Babies
High-risk maternal conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of birth defects and recurrent loss of previous pregnancies.
Evanston Hospital is one of the only 10 designated Level III Regional Perinatal Centers in Illinois, which means it offers specialty care for high-risk mothers and critically ill babies that's not found at most other hospitals. For babies who need intensive care, Evanston Hospital's 44-bed Infant Special Care Unit (ISCU) is staffed by a team of neonatologists as well as highly trained neonatal intensive care nurses. The ISCU offers individualized family support for infants who are born early, very small, or who are ill.
Highland Park Hospital was the first in Lake County to provide high-risk infant care around the clock from a team of board-certified neonatologists (physicians specializing in the care and development of newborn babies who are ill), using advanced technology.
Diagnosing Problems During Pregnancy
In case of complications during pregnancy, our Maternal-Fetal Medicine Group provides advanced fetal diagnostics and high-risk obstetrical care at a moment's notice. This group specializes in detecting, assessing and - in some cases - even treating genetic problems in unborn babies. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists, pediatric cardiologists, ultrasound technicians and genetic counselors provide care at multiple sites conveniently located throughout Lake County. However, the primary site is at Evanston Hospital where cutting-edge targeted ultrasonography and Rapid MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) evaluate abnormalities.
Contact Information
Our office is open Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 5:00pm and Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm. Routine prenatal appointments are scheduled on Monday afternoons, Tuesday mornings, Wednesday mornings, Thursday afternoons, and Friday mornings, principally at the Evanston center. Consults or longer appointments are scheduled throughout the week. Amniocentesis, special ultrasound examinations or procedures can be scheduled in the Fetal Diagnostic Center. Appointments are available at our 8 sites at varying times throughout the week. Our sites are Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital, Lake Forest, Arlington Heights, Gurnee, Libertyville, and Swedish Covenant Hospital. To schedule amniocentesis procedures or ultrasounds at any of our sites, please call 847.570.2860.
After hours or days when the office is closed, calls will be forwarded to our answering service for the physician on call. Your call will be returned as quickly as possible, although there are times when we may be temporarily away from a telephone or busy with other patients or deliveries. We do ask your understanding at those times and ask you to advise the answering service that we did not respond so they can help. If the problem is urgent and you cannot wait, your chart is available to the Senior Resident and nurses on duty at Evanston Hospital 847.570.2222. They can often direct you to the hospital for emergency care and initiate an assessment.
