Music Therapy

What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is a process in which the therapist helps the client to improve or maintain health using musical experiences and the relationship that develops through it. The program offers a wide variety of music therapy techniques designed to meet the needs of each patient, regardless of age, need, or ability. It provides a non-invasive approach to health care that maintains patients' dignity while improving their quality of life.

What is the Music and Medicine Program?
The Music and Medicine Program begins with the premise that music is a universal language, stirring the human spirit toward restoration and wholeness. Directed by an interdisciplinary team of health care professionals, the program offers music to patients, family members, and staff with our Live Music Program and our Music Therapy Program.

What is the Live Music Program?
The Live Music Program provides patients, families, and staff with relaxing music during their hospital stay or visit. Professional musicians who are trained to perform in our health care setting play music throughout Evanston, Glenbrook, and Highland Park Hospitals on a weekly basis. They are heard in lobbies, waiting rooms, nursing stations, and other public areas. Music is chosen to help reduce stress and anxiety and to make one's hospital visit more pleasant.

Where can I find a Music Therapy program near me?
Music therapy is currently available to patients at Evanston Hospital. Plans are underway to expand the program to Highland Park Hospital and Glenbrook Hospitals as well.
