Through the course of your care for cancer at NorthShore University HealthSystem, you may interact with any of several oncology specialists.  Some of the types of physician specialists are:

  • Medical Oncologists  - Physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer are called oncologists. Our medical oncologists use a wide range of interventions, including chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and immunotherapy to treat cancer and associated conditions.
  • Radiation Oncologists - Physicians who specialize in the use of radiation therapy for cancer patients.
  • Thoracic Surgery – Thoracic surgeons are specially trained in the surgical treatment of thoracic cancer.

Your physician will discuss your treatment options with you to ensure that you are comfortable with treatment plan decisions and that you know what to expect.
