Why Choose Evanston Northwestern Healthcare for Skin Cancer Care?
Skin cancer accounts for nearly half of all new cancers and is increasing in incidence. The three most common types of skin cancer include: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
Melanoma, the most dangerous of skin cancers, is a cancer that discriminates. It tends to most commonly affect persons with fair-skin and freckles. It may also be a part of your genetic makeup – if your parents had melanoma, you may be more likely to have it as well. The good news is that melanoma is highly curable in its early stages – and a self-aware patient is typically able to notice it and report it to a physician early on.
Patients who choose Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (ENH) for their skin cancer care often appreciate the options available here: access to the latest techniques and technologies that optimize the chance of a good result, the availability of clinical trials to treat certain melanomas, and a care team that reaches out to not only the patient, but to other members of the patients family, who may also be worried about their risk.

Our online medical record has reduced turn around time for test results by days. |
On a bi-weekly basis, our multidisciplinary team convenes to discuss each patient’s case in detail. Together, they construct a customized treatment plan. Our team consists of board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians and surgeons working closely with the specialists who will become an integral part of each patient’s recovery. These meetings of the minds are focused on each individual patient’s condition, to create the path for the most optimal outcome. At any point during treatment, any of the team members can use or electronic medical record system to check test results and confer with other specialists. The end of the “overstuffed manila folder” method of medical recordkeeping means that patients receive quick, reliable answers to their questions about tests or lab results.
