Evanston Northwestern Healthcare’s outpatient pharmacy department provides a variety of services. These services are provided by pharmacists working in the community setting. We currently operate three community pharmacy sites located in Sunset Foods Stores (Northbrook, Lake Forest and Libertyville) and three outpatient pharmacies at Glenbrook, Highland Park and Evanston Hospitals.

Pharmacists need to be in a position to promote pharmaceutical care by:

- Educating healthcare professionals and students.
- Ensuring appropriate drug therapy outcomes.
- Emphasizing patient education to ensure positive outcomes of drug therapy.
Program Highlights
The community pharmacy practice resident will:

Develop and implement new disease state management programs
- Determine the value of and secure compensation for patient care services
- Conduct health and wellness outreach programs in various community settings
- Educate healthcare professionals and students
- Participate in alternative medicine clinic patient care
- Gain practical pharmacy management experience and learn to manage and lead a profitable and clinically effective pharmacy.
- Explore opportunities to develop and market new and innovative pharmacy services
- Research and present a residency research project at the Great Lakes Pharmacy Residency Conference

The residency will develop a resident’s ability to implement and provide advanced patient care services in a community pharmacy setting. The resident will be able to provide high quality pharmaceutical care and patient education. In addition the residency will focus on development of pharmacy management skills as well as professional and leadership skills necessary for advancing pharmacy practice.
