Message from the Chairman

Welcome to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.  It is a pleasure to introduce you to our department. The website gives information regarding our goals and mission, the residency program, and information about our faculty.

The Department of Pathology is dedicated to the accurate diagnosis of disease by means of cutting edge technology, such as its information systems, automation and molecular testing, and the expertise of an outstanding faculty. In addition to its clinical excellence, the faculty is committed to participating in translational research and scientific investigation that will advance medical science and benefit the patient as a result of these efforts. The faculty at the same time endeavors to prepare young pathologists for a lifetime of challenge and professional growth, ensuring the continuity of the best possible care for our patients.

The Pathology Residency Training Program is designed to train a well-rounded pathologist through balanced training in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology.  There is significant personal training time with senior clinical faculty who are dedicated to a mentoring relationship. The core AP rotations include surgical pathology, autopsy, cytology, dermatopathology, pediatric pathology, forensic pathology, and electron microscopy.  The core CP rotations include biochemistry, hematology/coagulation, microbiology, blood bank, molecular diagnostics, diagnostic immunology and flow cytometry, and cytogenetics.
