The Glenbrook Family Care Center is the core training site for the residents.  Both residents and faculty establish their patient panel at Glenbrook.  It was designed for resident training and was completed in 1998.  Additionally, we have a focused maternal child clinic and deliver our patients at Highland Park Hospital.

Our electronic medical record is EPIC and is available at all three ENH hospitals, nearly all clinical preceptor sites and available from home.

The program curriculum is designed in block and longitudinal format to maximize learning and individualization.  The first year consists of 13 four-week blocks and focuses on inpatient and specialty experiences, including pediatrics and obstetrics.  The first block is designated as an orientation with a focus on clinical assessment introduction to the fundamentals of our hospital and clinic healthcare system and core teaching topics.  Residents begin continuity clinic and relationship building with patient families.

The second year progresses to more outpatient clinical learning experiences and increase in continuity clinic.  Many of the rotations are in four-week block format and the remainder are in the form of longitudinals.  The longitudinal educational experience is comprised of working with a number of specialists in the outpatient setting for one to two half days per week for three to six months.  This structure allows reinforcement of this skill and knowledge set on an extended period of time and provides more continuity of care with patients.  Second year rotations in longitudinal format include geriatrics, behavioral sciences, sports medicine, orthopedics, and pediatric outpatient.

Third year of Family Medicine residency training consists almost entirely of longitudinal experience with sufficient elective time to allow for individualization of curriculum to suit your educational and professional needs.  Residents are able to choose areas of concentration such as integrative medicine, sports medicine, obstetrics or geriatrics.

We regularly have medical students from a number of schools at varying levels on rotation in our clinic.  This provides a rich environment for the residents.  In addition, teaching opportunities are encouraged and available at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.
